Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - Wreck of Blackfriars Ships offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
Dalewood is a fantastic entry point for Scapa Flow wreck diving. We love how she sits, fairly intact and upright, making orientation a breeze even in the sometimes-murky Orkney waters. Dropping down onto her deck, you’ll find plenty to explore: the holds are open and inviting, often filled with shoals of whiting, while the engine room offers some tighter swim-throughs if you’re comfortable with overhead environments. Our favourite part has to be the stern, where the prop is still in place, covered in a shaggy beard of plumose anemones, and you can sometimes spot a curious seal darting through the superstructure. It's a great dive for those looking to experience Scapa’s history without the demands of the deeper German battleships, offering a real sense of a working ship reclaimed by the sea.
