ZELO - Cornwall & Devon
The Zelo, a steamship that met its end colliding with the Merkur in 1920, now rests upright in around 10 meters of water. It’s a decent introductory wreck dive for the region, largely intact despite its age. We’ve found the bow and stern sections still hold some recognisable form, creating plenty of nooks for small crabs and lobsters to hide in. Visibility here can be hit or miss, typical for the Channel, but on a good day, the light penetration is great, illuminating the skeletal remains and the shoals of pollock often hovering above the main structure. It’s a good one for newer wreck divers or those looking for a shallower second dive, offering a taste of Cornish maritime history without demanding deep technical skills.
