ZEPHIR (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Zephir, or what we believe to be the Zephir, is a proper technical dive, and one of our favourites off the Devon coast for a good reason. Dropping to 57 metres, this fishing vessel is still remarkably intact despite going down in rough seas back in 1963. We love the way she sits upright on the seabed, her mast still reaching skyward, almost defiant. You can still make out the wheelhouse, and the stern deck offers some fascinating penetration points for those with the right training and gear – just be mindful of potential entanglement with old fishing lines. It’s a dark dive, as you’d expect at this depth, but the ambient light filtering down creates an almost eerie glow around the superstructure. We’ve found her absolutely buzzing with fish; conger eels are everywhere, lurking in every nook and cranny, and the deck is usually blanketed in plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying gently in the current. This isn't a dive for the casual enthusiast. Come prepared for cold water, bring your torches, and most importantly, be confident in your deep diving skills. It’s a rewarding wreck if you treat her with the respect she deserves.
