DEFIANT - Northumberland & Northeast

The Defiant is a proper little working boat, resting upright on a sandy seabed at 29 metres. We love how intact she is for her size, a lovely compact dive that often delivers. You can drop onto her wheelhouse, then peel back towards the stern, where that propeller is often a hangout for blennies and small crabs. It’s a great introduction to wreck diving in the North Sea, without the crushing scale of some of the bigger ships. When we dive the Defiant, we usually find a friendly resident wolf fish poking its head out from under the bow, and often a decent lobster tucked into a dark corner. The visibility here can be surprisingly good on a calm day, sometimes pushing 10-15 metres, which really makes her character pop. We’d suggest keeping an eye on the current though, it can pick up. This wreck really suits divers who appreciate the history of these working vessels, and enjoy a smaller, more intimate exploration. If you’re into macro life, bring your torch, there are always some interesting nudibranchs clinging to the superstructure.
