REA 5 - Northumberland & Northeast

The Rea 5 wreck, a barge that went down back in '61, sits in about 33 metres, making it a dive for those comfortable with deeper profiles. It’s certainly a solid North Sea wreck, not a sprawling monster, but you get a real sense of its working-boat past. We usually find it’s home to a good number of wrasse, popping out from the plating, and the occasional crab scuttling across the deck. You can poke around the superstructure, which has softened nicely with growth over the decades, giving it some character. It’s a good choice for divers who appreciate the history of these old vessels and the hardy life they now support.
