SS Saganaga

Witless Bay Ecological Reserve
Why dive here
With 65+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, blue whales, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - SS Saganaga offers some of Newfoundland's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 0-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The SS Saganaga is a proper Atlantic wreck, resting upright at 30 metres. It’s got that classic freighter outline, big and boxy, making for easy navigation and penetration for those with the right training. We’ve found huge schools of capelin moving through the cargo holds, and often spot smooth skates tucked into the sand nearby. You’ll definitely be sharing the site with some of the larger residents, with sightings of orca and northern right whales not uncommon in the area. This is a cold water dive, so good drysuit skills are a must, but the reward is a truly wild, historical site.
