ZIDANI - Newfoundland

The Zidani isn't some pristine, tropical wreck. This is a Newfoundland wreck, and that means cold, dark water, but also incredible history and a certain rugged beauty. She was a stern trawler that went down in '86 after hitting rocks near Catalina, and the elements have been at her ever since. The stern, where she rests, is particularly evocative, a tangled mess of steel that feels like an archaeological dig in progress. We love the way the North Atlantic has started to reclaim her, with an array of anemones, sea stars, and the occasional lurking lumpfish making their homes in the hull. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical for the region, but on a good day, the light filtering through the green water gives the wreck a ghostly glow. This is a dive for those who appreciate history and don't mind a bit of a chill; a true adventure rather than a leisurely drift.
