Why dive here
With 177+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda, bull sharks, dolphins, eagle rays and nurse sharks - Musa: Under Water Museum offers some of Cozumel's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 27-30°C, warmest August, September, October.
Let's be clear: Musa isn't a natural reef, and it isn't a traditional wreck either. This is an art installation, and we love it for its quirky charm. Submerged at just 10 metres, it’s a brilliant spot for newer divers, or anyone looking for a relaxed, shallow profile. You’re swimming through rows of human figures, cars, and even a full-size house, all crafted from pH-neutral marine concrete. It feels eerie, almost like exploring a drowned city. The true magic here is watching how nature slowly reclaims these sculptures. You’ll spot damselfish darting through the window frames of the "house," and schools of grunt sheltering in the nooks and crannies of the statues. We’ve seen parrotfish grazing on the algae blooming across the faces, and anemones settling in the folds of a concrete dress. It’s a fascinating example of artificial reef creation, and the photographic opportunities are endless, especially on a sunny day when the light plays through the gaps between the figures. Our favourite time to visit is mid-morning, before the crowds, when the visibility is usually at its best and the light angle really highlights the sculptures.
