Landing Craft and Tank - Hawaii

We’ve spent a lot of time diving Hawaii, and the Landing Craft and Tank site is one of our favourites for a reason. It’s got that perfect blend of history and thriving marine life that makes a wreck dive truly special. Dropping down, you’re met with the ghostly silhouette of the LCT, a relic from World War II. We love how time has softened the edges of the metal, transforming it into a living reef. As you fin around the deck, look for the schools of bigeye scad that often swirl in shimmering clouds, so thick they almost obscure the wreck itself. Inside the cargo hold, a surprising number of white-tip reef sharks find shelter; we’ve counted three on one dive, just chilling on the sandy bottom. The penetration here is fairly straightforward, but always check your gauges and light – it can get surprisingly dark inside, even on a sunny day. We think this site is ideal for advanced open water divers who appreciate a wreck with a story, and aren’t afraid of a bit of current which can sometimes pick up, making the ride a little more exhilarating. Our top tip? Go in the morning. The light plays beautifully through the superstructure, really bringing the old vessel to life.
