Poseidon Reef - Hurghada

Simon’s Town Harbor isn't a postcard dive, and we love it for that. Forget your pristine coral expectations; this is a gritty, fascinating urban dive, a proper adventure. You gear up at the yacht club, then drop into a world of moored boats and murky possibility. The turbidity is real here, thanks to all the boat traffic, so adjust your expectations – six meters of visibility is a good day. But push past that and you’ll find the real draw: the wreck of an old fishing vessel, sunk right there at its moorings. It’s a small wreck, only 9m deep, but it’s become a haven. We’ve spent ages here, finning slowly over the sandy bottom and through the seagrass beds that fan out from the wreck. Schools of silver moonies and garrick dart around the superstructure, and the amount of macro life is genuinely surprising. Look closely in the nooks and crannies for thornback skates tucked into the sand, and we’ve even spotted cow sharks cruising in the deeper gloom beyond the wreck. It’s a perfect spot for divers who appreciate the unexpected and don’t mind a bit of a treasure hunt.
