Louilla - Sharm el-Sheikh

Louilla might not get the same hype as the Thistlegorm, but for us, she’s got a quiet charm all her own. This wreck, apparently an old liveaboard that went down in the 80s, sits upright on a sandy bottom and it’s a brilliant rummage around. The prop is still there, a little green with growth, and we love drifting over the main deck, peeking into the cabins – some of the bunk beds are still visible, a ghostly reminder. It’s the softer corals and sponges that have really taken hold here that make it special, turning bulkheads into vibrant canvases. You’ll often spot a blackline fangblenny darting into its bolt hole or a solitary cowfish meandering past a porthole. While the big pelagics like whale sharks or dolphins are more of a lucky draw in the wider area, Louilla herself attracts smaller, fascinating residents. We’d suggest an early morning dive if you can swing it; the light filtering through the superstructure is just magical, and the crowds haven't arrived yet. It’s a pretty easy dive, great for anyone comfortable with wreck penetration, even if it’s just a look-see from the outside.
