ISABELITA (PROBABLY) - Jeddah

Isabelita (Probably) really is probably Isabelita, or so the local dive masters confidently assert. Either way, it’s a cracking wreck dive off Jeddah. This colossal freighter ran aground back in '78, and she sits upright on a rocky shelf. We love the sheer scale of the wreck; it’s over 135 metres long and you really feel that size when you’re swimming along her deck or through the cargo holds. The bow section, in particular, is an amazing tangle of metal and coral. Sunlight filters down, illuminating schools of fusiliers so thick they block the light, and we've spotted huge moray eels peering out from gaps in the plating. This is a dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts. Penetration is possible, but we’d always recommend sticking with a guide who knows the layout. Our favourite time to dive it is early morning, before the currents pick up too much, though they're rarely an issue here.
