EMIL - Port Sudan & Sanganeb

The EMIL wreck, just north of Port Sudan, is a freighter that caught fire back in '89. She’s a big girl, almost 120 metres long, and sits upright in a maximum depth of around 28 metres. The stern section is the most intact part, where the propellers and rudder are still in place, now home to schools of snapper and barracuda. We’ve always enjoyed the engine room penetration here, it’s quite open and a good introduction to overhead environments for those with appropriate training. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs on the deck plating, especially around the cargo holds where the light creates some interesting shadows. It’s a solid dive for anyone who enjoys exploring a proper wreck.
