SS Umbria - Port Sudan & Sanganeb

The SS Umbria. Now, this is a wreck with a story, isn't it? Scuttled by her own captain back in 1940 to avoid capture, she now rests on her side at a comfortable 23 meters. We particularly like the access here; the holds are huge and open, inviting you inside to explore the remnants of her cargo – think Fiat cars, cases of wine, even stacks of bombs, all eerily preserved. Outside, the superstructure has become a home for schooling bannerfish and occasional reef sharks cruising by. It’s a compelling dive for anyone with some wreck experience looking for a genuine piece of history.
