Car Cemetery - Fujairah
Okay, so the Car Cemetery in Fujairah. We’ve been here a few times and it’s always a good laugh, honestly. It’s an artificial reef, sure, but in the best possible way: a pile of old cars and buses deliberately sunk to create habitat. You drop down, usually to about 12-15m, and suddenly you’re in this junkyard, but it’s alive. The site is easy, perfect for newer divers, with depths between 10m and 18m. We love finning over the wrecks, peeking inside the bus windows where you might spot a big Granular Frog Shell or a grumpy Red Swimming Crab staring back. Brain coral has really taken hold on the chassis, softening the edges of the metal, and you’ll see Banded Cleaner Shrimp waving from almost every crevice. We've even been lucky enough to see a Green Turtle cruising past the bigger vehicles, completely unfazed. If you get there early, sometimes a young Blacktip Reef Shark will glide through the deeper sections, a real treat. It’s not a grand historical wreck, but it’s quirky, surprisingly vibrant, and just plain fun to explore.

Off the coast of Fujairah, the 'Car Cemetery' stands as a testament to creative reef building. This unique dive site was intentionally created by sinking dozens of cars and small trucks onto a sandy seabed to form a new marine habitat. What was once a barren patch of sand has been transformed into a thriving, bustling underwater city. The vehicles, arranged in a sprawling pile, have been completely colonized by hard and soft corals, turning rusting metal into a kaleidoscope of color. The site is a macro photographer's dream, with countless critters making their homes in the nooks and crannies of the wrecks. Divers can expect to find moray eels peering from wheel wells, schools of snapper swarming through open doors, and the occasional ray or turtle gliding over the scene. It's a fantastic example of a successful artificial reef project and an unforgettable dive.
