GULF VIXEN - Fujairah

The Gulf Vixen, a tug that went down off Sharjah in 1981, now rests in Fujairah’s sandy embrace at a very accessible 15 metres. We love this site for its relaxed vibe and surprising amount of action. It's a great choice if you're looking for a chill dive with plenty to explore, without worrying about depth or tricky currents. When you drop down, the Vixen appears, largely intact, sitting upright. You can poke around the wheelhouse, imagining the last moments before she listed and sank. Our favourite part is the engine room, quite open now, where you’ll often find lionfish perched, their fins splayed like feathered hats. Schools of yellowfin trevally flash past, darting in and out of the superstructure, and we’ve spotted moray eels peeking from beneath plates of the hull. It’s a site that proves a good wreck doesn't need to be deep to be interesting. We’d suggest going in the morning; the light filtering through the shallow water really brings out the colours on the encrusting corals.
