Mushroom (Sunken Reef) - Fujairah

The Mushroom, or Sunken Reef as some call it, is one of those Fujairah sites that surprises you. It’s not a true wreck in the classic sense, more of a collection of barges and discarded concrete blocks, but don't let that put you off. Dropping down, you hit the top at about 12 metres and the seabed around 20 metres. We love how quickly the coral has taken hold here, coating almost everything in a furry layer of soft corals and anemones. It’s a fantastic spot for macro life. Look closely and you’ll find nudibranchs, often several species on a single dive, and tiny crabs tucked into every crevice. We’ve seen moray eels peeking out from under the larger concrete sections, and schools of snapper often hang motionless above the structure. For photographers, the Mushroom offers some great opportunities, especially with a wide-angle lens to capture the scale of the artificial reef and the fish life swarming around it. It's a gentle dive, perfect for newer divers building confidence, or for experienced eyes looking for the small, camouflaged critters. Visibility can vary, but even on an average day, the sheer density of life makes it a rewarding dive.
