Torin - Malpelo Island
Torin at Malpelo is one of those sites that just feels… big. It’s got that classic Malpelo current, often a good push, so be ready to drift and enjoy the ride. We love how the reef structure here creates a natural amphitheatre, a real magnet for the schooling hammerheads. You’ll often find them circling in the blue, sometimes hundreds strong, a swirling vortex of grey forms. We’d suggest keeping an eye out for the big pelagics too, the silky sharks often cruise by, and we’ve had lucky encounters with whale sharks here, just gliding past, unbothered. The sheer scale of the fish biomass is incredible; huge schools of jacks and grunts create living walls that part as you swim through. This site really suits experienced divers who appreciate the raw power of the ocean and the thrill of big animal encounters. Come prepared for an exhilarating drift, and make sure your camera battery is full; you’ll want to capture the memory of those hammerhead formations.
