Macarron Scuba Divers - Galápagos Islands

Macarron is one of those sites that always leaves us buzzing. We love dropping in here, particularly if we’re looking for a good chance to see big schools of the Bumphead Parrotfish. You won't just see a few; we're talking about dozens, sometimes hundreds, moving together, completely oblivious to your presence as they graze the reef. It’s an incredible sight, almost like a slow-motion ballet with massive fish. Beyond the parrotfish, keep an eye out for the Grape-eye Seabass lurking in the crevices. They're surprisingly shy but worth the patience. We've also had incredible luck spotting Galapagos Marine Iguanas feeding right off the reef here. Seeing them underwater, so graceful despite their land clumsiness, is always a highlight. Our favourite time to dive Macarron is early morning, just after sunrise; the light filtering through the water is magical, and the currents tend to be a little calmer. It’s not the easiest dive, especially if the current picks up, but the rewards are well worth a bit of a workout. If you’re keen on seeing unusual schooling fish behaviour and some unique Galapagos residents underwater, Macarron is a solid choice. It suits divers who are comfortable with potential currents and who appreciate a healthy, bustling reef.
