JAMBELI - Isla de la Plata

Jambeli isn't your typical reef dive; it’s a sombre reminder of history, now a thriving artificial reef. Sunk on Christmas Eve 1973, the motor vessel lies in just 9 metres of water, making it incredibly accessible, even for newer wreck divers. We love that you can spend a full hour exploring its skeletal remains. The wreck itself is broken into several large sections, spread across a sandy bottom, hinting at the force of its sinking. As you descend, the sheer size of the hull plates and engine parts becomes apparent. You'll weave through rusted compartments, observing schools of snapper flitting in and out of the shadows. Our favourite part is the way the light filters through the broken deck, illuminating a resident moray eel peeking from a dark crevice. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs clinging to the metal, their colours a stark contrast to the rust. This site suits divers who appreciate a wreck with a story, offering a respectful peek into the past while enjoying the marine life that has claimed it.
