Coral Garden - Bali

We’ve always had a soft spot for Coral Garden. It’s not the most dramatic dive in Bali, no big pelagics or dizzying walls, but it’s a site that really rewards a slow, careful eye. Picture yourself drifting over a sprawling field of staghorn coral, some colonies the size of small cars, all gently swaying in the mild surge. Sunlight streams through the shallow water, illuminating the sandy patches between the coral where yellowstripe monocle bream scoot and bloodspot pipefish blend so well you might miss them. What we love here is the sheer density of small stuff hiding in plain sight. Keep an eye out for the tiny, iridescent Redlight Eviota darting among the branches. It’s a great spot for newer divers to practice buoyancy, or for macro photographers who appreciate the chance to really settle in and find their shot without battling strong currents. Our favourite time to dive it is first thing in the morning, before the day boats arrive, when the light is perfect and the reef feels wonderfully quiet.
