EX-PURNAMA - Bali

The EX-PURNAMA wreck isn't deep, barely three metres at its highest point, which makes it perfect for a long, relaxed snorkel or a super shallow dive. We’ve always been charmed by its accessible history, a fishing boat sunk deliberately to create an artificial reef. It sits broken in parts, split open in the middle, and you can easily fin through sections of the hull, spotting where light filters in through the gaps. This isn't about big pelagics, but the macro life here is incredible. Look closely and you’ll find nudibranchs crawling along the barnacled metal, tiny shrimp tucked into crevices, and juvenile reef fish darting between the rusty beams. Our favourite time to visit is mid-morning, after the initial rush, when the sun is high and illuminates the whole site. It really brings out the colours of the corals starting to encrust the old boat. It’s a gentle, easy site, ideal for photographers wanting to practice their skills in good light, or for newer divers getting comfortable around a wreck without the pressure of depth. Just watch out for the occasional fishing line snagged on the wreck, a reminder of its past life.
