Geisterschiff - Bali

Geisterschiff, or "Ghost Ship," has a certain pull, even if it’s just a fishing boat wreck sitting upright off Candidasa. We love it for its simplicity and the way the sea has reclaimed it. This isn't some massive freighter, it’s an intimate dive, perfect for exploring every nook and cranny without feeling overwhelmed. You'll drop down onto the deck, usually around 15-20 metres, and straight away, you’re enveloped by the resident schools of yellow-stripe snapper, thick enough to dim the light filtering from above. The ship's wheel is still there, often draped in colourful soft corals, a great spot to pause and watch cleaner shrimp working on the passing fish. We always spend time peering into the small cabins, where you might spot a juvenile lionfish or a moray eel peeking from the shadows. The beauty here isn’t in grand scale, but in the details: the anemones hosting clownfish on the bow, the nudibranchs crawling along the railings, and the way the metal structure has become a vibrant, living reef. It’s a gentle wreck dive, ideal for those who appreciate marine life thriving on artificial structures, or anyone looking for a relaxed second dive with plenty to observe.
