KLM Arto - Bali

The KLM Arto, just off the coast of Amed, isn't a deep dive, topping out at 10 metres, but it offers a genuinely rewarding experience. We love that it’s so accessible, a perfect long shallow second dive after exploring some of the nearby reefs. This isn't some ancient, broken up vessel, it’s a relatively intact former patrol boat, scuttled intentionally. Dropping down, you’ll see the hull silhouetted against the sun, often with schools of tiny glassfish shimmering around the superstructure. We think the best part is the swim-throughs; they’re wide and easy, letting you explore the wheelhouse and engine room without feeling squeezed. Look out for the resident moray eels peeking from every crevice and the lionfish often perched dramatically on the railings. It's a great spot for macro photographers too, we’ve found some excellent nudibranchs tucked away on the coral growth. Given its shallow depth, you get plenty of bottom time to really take it all in. We’d suggest going in the morning before any stronger currents pick up, which can sometimes make entry a bit more interesting.
