KM,WIHAN SEJAHTERA - Bali

The KM Wihan Sejahtera wreck in Bali is a proper big boat, not just a pile of rubble. We’re talking a massive car ferry, over 100 meters long, lying on its side at a shallow 22 meters. It’s still relatively new, having sunk in 2011, which means the coral growth is in its early stages, but it’s still pretty impressive. The sheer scale of it is what really gets you – you can swim through the open car decks, past the steering house, and even into some of the cabins. It feels like exploring a ghost ship, with schools of fusiliers darting through the open doorways and large groupers lurking in the shadows. Our favourite part is the engine room, which is surprisingly accessible and makes for some great swim-throughs if you're comfortable with overhead environments. The currents here can be unpredictable, so we’d always suggest checking with your dive guide before dropping in. It’s a site for divers who appreciate the grandeur of a large wreck and don't mind a bit of a current. You won't find the riot of colour you get on older, established reefs, but the developing marine life, particularly the larger pelagics that cruise by, makes it a rewarding dive.
