Liberty Dive Resort - Bali

We’ve spent a lot of time diving the Liberty wreck, but for something completely different in Tulamben, the house reef at Liberty Dive Resort is a real treat. It’s right there, a short walk from your room, and it’s surprisingly good. What we love about it is the sheer number of critters hiding in plain sight. Forget the big stuff for a minute; this site is all about the macro. We’ve found Indian seahares grazing on algae, tiny Brown-blotched okenias crawling across sponges, and Elegant Sandburrowers doing their namesake thing in the sand. Our favourite find has to be the Largemouth Triplefin, usually perched on a bit of rubble, eyeing us with suspicion. The reef itself is a mix of sand flats and small coral bommies, with some decent staghorn patches. We usually spend a good hour just finning slowly, letting our eyes adjust to the miniature world. It’s a photographer’s dream, particularly early morning before the sun gets too high, when the light is softer. Don't rush it; the best stuff reveals itself to those who move slowly. If you're a fan of nudibranchs, pygmy gobies, and other small, weird things, you'll feel right at home. This site is perfect for unhurried exploration and honing your spotting skills.
