PUTRA BERLIAN XII - Bali

The Putra Berlian XII is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to. No, it’s not ancient, nor is it enormous, but this old barge has settled perfectly upright in about 15 metres of water, creating an artificial reef that just pulls in the fish. It’s got a genuine ghost ship vibe. What we love here is how approachable it is. You can spend a whole dive just circling the wreck, weaving in and out of the hold where schools of snapper hang out. Or get right up close to the wheelhouse, feeling the textured rust beneath your fingertips, watching the damselfish flit amongst the anemones. The currents are usually mild, making it a dream for newer wreck divers or photographers wanting to spend time framing shots of the resident lionfish. We always find something new, whether it’s a tiny nudibranch crawling along the deck plating or a moray eel peering out from a dark corner. It’s a site that rewards patience and a keen eye. Our tip: go early to have it mostly to yourself.
