PUTRA BULIAN - Bali

Putra Bulian is a fantastic wreck for divers who enjoy a bit of history with their exploration. This old barge, apparently scuttled years ago, now rests upright at a comfortable 18 metres. It’s not a massive wreck, but it’s large enough to spend a whole dive nosing around its various sections, which is exactly what we love about it. We’ve found the stern particularly interesting, with sections that let you peek inside what used to be the engine room. What makes Putra Bulian really special is how the reef has taken over. You’ll find soft corals in vibrant purples and oranges coating the steel, and schools of fusiliers often hang above the deck, occasionally parting to reveal a shy moray eel tucked into a crevice. It’s a photographer’s dream, especially when the sun hits just right, illuminating the sponge-covered hull. We'd suggest going early in the morning; the water tends to be calmer, and you often have the wreck mostly to yourselves before the day boats arrive. Currents here are usually mild, making it a relaxed dive suitable for those looking to hone their wreck diving skills without battling strong surges. Just keep an eye out for scorpionfish, they blend in perfectly.
