Takat Tingkarang - Bali

Western Pumpkin Reef. The name itself hints at something a little different, and it delivers. Forget your tropical assumptions, because this is Nova Scotia diving at its finest – rugged, surprisingly colorful, and undeniably unique. We love the sheer density of life here, especially the invertebrates. Green sea urchins carpet the shallower rocky outcrops, alongside thick patches of dulse and ribbon weed swaying in the gentle surge. It’s a macro photographer’s dream, with four-bearded rocklings peeking out from crevices and the occasional banded killifish darting past. While you won't find a rainbow of corals, the cooler waters have fostered a hardy, fascinating ecosystem. Keep an eye out for larger visitors too; we’ve had golden shiners swim through our lights and even spotted alewife. Above the surface, it’s a birdwatcher's delight – black guillemots are common, and in season, the calls of Arctic terns are unmistakable. This site truly suits divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of temperate waters and aren’t afraid of a little chill for a genuinely rewarding experience.
