TORINO - Bali

Torino is a proper old ship, not one of those purpose-sunk affairs. She sits upright in just eight metres of water, so it’s a brilliant second dive or a long, shallow exploration. You can fin right along her deck, peeking into the holds where schools of snapper often shelter. We love drifting over the bow, watching the light play on the coral growth that’s encrusted the mast. It’s a slow dive, perfect for photographers who want to take their time framing shots of the resident lionfish or the moray eels peeking from the shadows. The historical context, a fishing boat sunk by the Japanese in WWII, gives it a somber, compelling character. We’d suggest going early; sometimes the boat traffic above can make for a slightly bumpy surface ride later in the day, though it rarely affects visibility below. This site is surprisingly good for macro, so keep an eye out for nudibranchs on the encrusting sponges.
