USAT Liberty Wreck - Bali

The USAT Liberty Wreck in Tulamben isn't just a dive; it's a rite of passage for Bali-bound divers. We love it because it's so accessible, starting in just four metres of water and sloping down to around thirty. You don't need to be a tech diver to explore this piece of history. What makes the Liberty special is how much of it you can still appreciate. You can swim through cargo holds, peer into gun turrets, and imagine the ship's past. Our favourite part has to be the bow section, often swarming with schools of fusiliers and yellow-striped snappers. It’s common to see a resident green turtle gliding past, seemingly unfazed by divers. For photographers, the light here can be magic, especially early in the morning when the sun's rays filter through the mast. That’s also when you avoid the bulk of the crowds. Look closely, and you'll spot ornate ghost pipefish camouflaged amongst the gorgonians, or maybe a rosy frogfish tucked into a crevice. It’s a site that rewards slow exploration and a keen eye. The sheer volume of fish life, combined with the wreck's dramatic structure, makes it a true standout.
