Sweet Dreams (59) - Klein Bonaire

Village Reef is one of those easy-going drift dives that we always look forward to, particularly if we've had a few days of more challenging sites. It's just a ten-minute boat ride from the dive shop, a quick zip around the coast. The maximum depth here is 20 metres, so it’s perfect for extending your bottom time, and the current, while always present, is usually a gentle push. We’ve had some cracking encounters with barracuda here, often hanging just off the reef edge, and the schooling bass can be so thick they form shimmering walls. We love the variety of corals. You’ll find big boulders encrusted with a mosaic of colours, and patches of what we call ‘magic coral’ – those delicate, branching formations that seem to glow. Keep an eye out for octopus tucked into crevices; they’re pretty common here. Visibility averages around 12 metres, which is decent, but what makes this special isn’t the distance you can see, it’s the density of life in that space. It’s a site that suits everyone from newer divers getting comfortable with currents to seasoned folk who appreciate a relaxed dive with plenty to observe.
