Octopus Resort - Kadavu & Great Astrolabe Reef
The team at Octopus Resort really gets what we’re looking for in a dive holiday: solid diving without a big fuss. They’re PADI through and through, which makes getting certified or just doing a refresher super easy, especially if you’re traveling with non-divers who might want to try a Discover Scuba Dive. What we love about their operation here, tucked away on Kadavu, is the sheer variety they access in the Great Astrolabe Reef. We’ve had some truly epic dives with them, from drift dives that feel like flying over endless fields of soft coral to exploring small pinnacles absolutely swarming with fusiliers and anthias. One morning, we dropped onto a site called "The Wall" and spent the entire dive watching a squadron of reef sharks cruise past – not aggressive, just curious. Visibility is usually excellent, especially between May and October, making it easy to spot everything from tiny nudibranchs to passing manta rays. Our favourite tip? Ask the dive guides about the morning current; sometimes the best drift dives happen before breakfast. It’s a wonderfully unpretentious place to dive, perfect for those who prioritise good diving and good vibes over fancy frills.
