Waidroka Bay Resort - Kadavu & Great Astrolabe Reef

The team at Waidroka Bay Resort are our kind of people, running a PADI shop that feels less like a business and more like a shared passion. They’ve got a knack for making Kadavu’s renowned dive sites feel like your own private aquarium. We love that they focus on smaller groups, meaning more space to really soak in the spectacle of the Great Astrolabe Reef. If you’re serious about diving, but also appreciate a laid-back, personal vibe, this is a solid pick. The diving here is about big pelagics and dramatic topography. Think grey reef sharks gliding silently over deep reef walls, barracuda schooling in dense tornadoes, and eagle rays cruising past. We’ve had some incredible encounters at sites like ‘Naiqoro Passage’, where the current can sweep you along, surrounded by schools of fusiliers so thick they momentarily block the light. The visibility, often hitting 30 metres, gives everything a vibrant, almost hyperreal clarity. Our favourite memory? Drifting over huge gorgonian fans, watching for passing tuna, the sun dappling through the water. Go early in the morning for the best chance to see the bigger stuff before the day boats arrive. They manage over 20 dive sites, so you’ll see something different every day.
