Mellow Yellow, Sodwana Bay - Sodwana Bay
The Pinnacles are a site we often return to. You’ve got two distinct towers here, the larger one breaking the surface at around six metres, then dropping off well past recreational limits. The smaller pinnacle is deeper, starting at eighteen metres and bottoming out around thirty. We like to hit this on an incoming tide. You get a stronger current, yes, but it really lights up the place, bringing in better visibility and a lot more action. Our favourite part is the top of the bigger pinnacle, a soft carpet of anemones absolutely buzzing with clownfish. You just float there, watching them fuss about. Deeper down, look for the ornate ghost pipefish tucked into the corals, and we’ve had good luck spotting octopus and various nudibranchs clinging to the walls. We’ve even seen hammerheads cruise by in the blue sometimes, though that's a real bonus. This site really shines for macro enthusiasts and anyone who loves a bit of current to liven things up.
