Jagatha - Trincomalee & East Coast

The Jagatha wreck is one of our favourites in Trinco, a proper piece of history lying upright in just 12 metres of water. We love a shallow wreck, especially one so accessible. She was a cargo ship, sunk by the Japanese in World War II, and while the superstructure has long since collapsed, the hull is remarkably intact. You can swim through the cargo holds, where the light shafts down through the openings, illuminating schools of snapper. Look closely at the ribs of the wreck, they're covered in ghost pipefish and various nudibranchs. The bow is particularly scenic, draped in soft corals and home to big groupers and moray eels peeking out from every crevice. Visibility here usually sits around 15 metres, sometimes more, making it a great spot for photographers, especially when the morning sun hits just right. It’s an easy dive, perfect for newer wreck enthusiasts or those who just want to spend a long, relaxed bottom time exploring history.
