Scuba Lanka - Trincomalee & East Coast

Scuba Lanka, off Trinco’s coast, is one of those spots we always try to hit when we're in the area. It’s a gentle drift, usually, a nice way to ease into the day. The site itself isn’t about huge pelagics, though we have seen the occasional Great Barracuda eye us up. What we love here is the sheer density of the smaller stuff. The reef structure is a bit ambiguous, but we’re often just gliding over sandy patches interspersed with rocky outcrops and bits of seagrass. Keep your eyes peeled low. You’ll spot Peacock Wrasse flitting through the gloom, and if you’re patient, the odd Mangrove Crocodilefish will reveal itself, perfectly camouflaged. We’ve had great fun watching the tiny Adorned Dwarfgobies darting between the coral rubble. Our favourite part has to be searching for the Bicolor Blennies – they pop out of their little holes, all personality. It’s a great site for photographers who enjoy macro and slow, deliberate exploration. If you’re into the subtle, vibrant life of a healthy shallow reef, this place truly delivers.
