Lulu Deep - Mafia Island

Palancar Gardens. This is where we often recommend people start their Cozumel diving. It’s a gentle introduction to the island’s famous drift, a comfortable cruise past some serious coral real estate. The maximum depth here is 25 metres, but we often spend a lot of time shallower, just soaking it all in. You’ll see plenty of brain and star corals forming swim-throughs and small caves, perfect for poking around. Keep an eye out for the endemic Splendid Toadfish tucked away in ledges – they're notoriously shy, but Palancar Gardens is one of the better spots to catch a glimpse. We’ve also had great luck spotting Harlequin Bass and the vibrant Yellowhead Wrasse darting amongst the coral heads. The current is usually mild enough that you can really take your time, letting the water carry you along while you scan for those smaller, intricate creatures. If you’re looking to ease into Cozumel’s unique diving style, this is our pick.
