Napoleon Wall

Napoleon Wall is our pick for a dramatic drift in Zanzibar. We love how the reef just drops away into the deep blue, creating this real sense of exposure. You feel the current pushing you along, often quite briskly, so it’s one for those comfortable with a bit of movement. As you glide past, keep your eyes peeled for the bigger stuff that cruises the wall – we’ve seen green turtles making their way up from the depths and huge schools of fusiliers, so thick they almost block out the light. Look closer, though, and the wall itself is alive with smaller details. We’ve spotted Little Post Horn Squid jetting about and various cone snails like the Leopard or Sand-dusted Cone clinging to the rock. It's not always about the big pelagics here; the intricate life in the crevices and ledges is just as captivating. Best dived mid-morning, before the afternoon winds pick up too much.
