KORONOWO - Bornholm

The Koronowo is a proper wreck, and we reckon it’s one of the best you’ll find off Bornholm. Sunk in a gale back in ‘79, she sits upright on the seabed, an impressive 84-meter bulk that just keeps giving as you descend. We love the way she’s mostly intact, making it feel less like a pile of scrap and more like a ghost ship. Her deck cargo, the reason she went down, is still visible in places, a jumble of twisted metal that makes for some interesting swim-throughs if you're careful. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, as it is in the Baltic, but on a good day, the light penetration is just enough to make out the dark outlines of her superstructure and mast reaching up. You'll often find schools of cod lingering in the cargo holds, and we've seen some surprisingly large flatfish tucked into the sand next to her hull. For experienced divers, the Koronowo offers genuine exploration, a chance to really get to grips with a sizeable, relatively modern wreck. Don't rush it; take your time to explore the bridge area and the stern, where the prop is still a commanding presence.
