DELPHINUS - Crete

The Delphinus wreck, just off Crete, is a fantastic introduction to Mediterranean wreck diving, especially if you’re not looking to go super deep. We love how accessible it is, sitting practically in the shallows. You’ll find the motor vessel upright and largely intact, a real pleasure to fin around. Head for the wheelhouse first; it’s still very recognisable and often has schools of damselfish flitting inside. Our favourite part is the engine room, which is open for a quick peek if you’re comfortable with some overhead. The light plays beautifully here, filtering through openings and illuminating the gauges and controls, all encrusted with sponges. Look out for the resident moray eels that have made their homes in the deeper crevices of the hull. It’s a great site for photographers keen on capturing the interplay of natural light and shadow on a historical structure. We’d suggest going early in the morning to avoid any boat traffic and to catch the best light. It’s a very calm dive, perfect for refining your buoyancy around an intriguing piece of history.
