Fundive - Crete
The team at Fundive are an absolute institution on Crete. Operating out of Platanias since 1984, they’ve pretty much written the book on diving the island’s west coast. What we really love about Fundive is their knack for finding those quieter corners, even near popular spots. They specialise in small groups, which makes a huge difference when you’re exploring the sea caves and tunnels around Chania, letting you really take your time to peer into the shadows for shrimp or a sleeping octopus. We’d suggest them for anyone keen to explore Crete’s geological side underwater. Think dramatic rock formations rather than lush reefs. Visibility here is consistently good, often pushing 30 metres, with that classic Mediterranean sapphire blue. Our favourite dive with them involves a drift along a wall where sunlight streaks through cracks in the rock above, illuminating swarms of damselfish. Ask them about their early morning trips; getting out before the boat traffic picks up can mean spotting bigger pelagics, like amberjacks, patrolling the deeper sections. It’s a low-key, professional outfit, perfect for divers who appreciate calm, experienced guidance.
