Lygaria - Crete

Lygaria isn’t one of those dramatic wall dives, but it’s a site we always enjoy for its sheer chill factor and the small, rewarding details. You drop in over a sandy slope that gently descends, scattered with patches of seagrass. We often find loggerheads cruising through these meadows, placidly munching away. Keep an eye out for the Silver-cheeked Toadfish, they’re surprisingly charismatic despite their grumpy faces. The real joy here is taking it slow, poking around the smaller rocks. We’ve had some fantastic encounters with bristleworms, their iridescent bristles catching the light, and those little Red snapping shrimp are always a delight to watch as they pop in and out of their crevices. It’s a photographer’s dream for macro subjects. Visibility is usually excellent, often pushing 30 metres, which makes for lovely, bright dives. Lygaria is perfect for a relaxed afternoon dive, maybe a second dive of the day, when you just want to unwind and appreciate the smaller side of the Med.
