MINNEWASKA - Crete

Diving the Minnewaska is a journey back in time. This isn't just a pile of metal on the seabed, it’s a hulking steamship, torpedoed in 1916, now resting upright at 38 metres. We love that you can still make out her grand scale, even after all these years; the bow section rises impressively from the sand, draped in sponges. As you descend, the sheer size of her emerges from the blue, a dark silhouette slowly taking shape. We always get a thrill navigating her decks, imagining her final moments. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the superstructure, darting in and out of portholes. Look for moray eels tucked into crevices, their heads peering out. The Minnewaska suits experienced wreck divers who appreciate history and a bit of depth. It’s a proper dive, one that demands good air consumption and attention to detail. Our tip: go slow, take your time exploring the deeper sections of the hull, and bring a good torch to peer into the shadowed compartments.
