PANORMITIS S - Crete

Okay, so you’re looking for something a bit different in Crete? Panormitis S is our pick, a motor vessel that went down in '79 unloading gas bottles – quite the bang, we hear. It’s sitting upright in just 12 metres, which means you get fantastic light penetration and a really accessible dive. We love that you can pretty much swim right into the cargo hold, where those gas bottles used to be. It’s spooky but fascinating. Sunlight shimmers through the open deck sections, illuminating schools of damselfish that dart in and out of the rusted metal. Look closely around the prop and rudder for scorpionfish, they blend in incredibly well. Our favourite part? The sheer scale of it, even at this depth. You can trace its outline, imagine the chaos, and then spend ages just watching the nudibranchs crawl over the deck plating. It's a proper wreck, easy to navigate, and brilliant for photographers, or anyone who just wants to spend some quality time exploring history underwater.
