LENNOX - South Coast

The Lennox, sitting in a gentle 9 metres off the South Saltee Island, is one of our favourite Irish wreck dives. It’s not about huge depths or shocking currents here. This site is for those who appreciate history settling into the seabed. When you drop down, you’ll find the steamship’s remains fairly broken up, but still substantial enough to evoke its past. We particularly love poking around the scattered plates and twisted metal, imagining the storm that took it in 1916. Look closely and you’ll spot crab scuttling into crevices, conger eels peeking from beneath bigger sections of hull, and sometimes a dogfish curled up in a sheltered spot. The low depth means you get fantastic bottom time, letting you really absorb the atmosphere. It’s a photographer’s dream on a clear day, with the light filtering through the green water. Dive this one around slack tide for the easiest exploration.
