The M.V. Kowloon Bridge isn’t just a dive, it’s a proper expedition. This colossal ore carrier, once the largest shipwreck on the planet by deadweight, went down in 1986 and now lies scattered across the seabed off the South Coast. We love it because it’s less a single wreck and more a whole submerged landscape of twisted metal and massive plates. You’re not penetrating intact cabins here. Instead, you’re navigating an enormous debris field, with the bow, stern, and engine room identifiable but broken. It’s a dive that rewards repeat visits; each time, you'll find a new gully or a different overhang. The sheer scale is what gets you; swimming over a plate of steel the size of a football pitch, then dropping down into a void created by collapsed decks. Our favourite spots are the areas where the hull plating has buckled and folded, creating sheltered nooks. These are often thick with poor cod, and the Devonshire cup corals just glow in your torch beam. You'll spot lumpsuckers clinging to the exposed metal, and we've even seen Basking Sharks in the deeper sections during late spring. Conditions can be challenging, though. Exposure to Atlantic swells means you need a calm day, and currents can pick up. Visibility, even on a good day, is more about 10-15 metres than 30, but that just adds to the atmosphere. It suits experienced cold water wreck divers who appreciate the raw power of a ship this size being reclaimed by the ocean.

    Safety Notes

Wreck site - avoid penetration without wreck diving certification. Watch for sharp metal and entanglement hazards.

Cold water this month (avg 14°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
