Why dive here
With 185+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - QUEBRA offers some of South Coast's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 9-15°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Quebra, off Ireland's South Coast, isn't your average wreck dive. This huge steamship, down since 1916, gives you a sense of scale few other sites can. Dropping onto her 22m deck, you’re often greeted by schools of pollock swirling around the bow. We love tracing the length of her, especially on a day with decent visibility, which for us means anything over 8m here. Her sheer size, over 114m long, means you’ll want more than one dive to really get a feel for her. The hold sections are a favourite of ours; you can duck into the open spaces and spot conger eels tucked away in the shadows. The Quebra’s upright position makes her an excellent dive for those new to deeper wrecks, offering plenty to see without needing to penetrate. Keep an eye out for dogfish resting on the sand nearby, and the occasional lobster peeking from a crevice. It’s a dive that truly connects you to the area's maritime history.
