S.S. Minnehaha - South Coast

The S.S. Minnehaha isn't just a wreck; it’s a time capsule, and one of our absolute favourite deep dives off Ireland’s South Coast. This colossal liner, sitting upright, demands respect and good planning. We usually drop onto the stern, which is still remarkably intact, and then slowly work our way along the decks. You’ll find schools of cod and pollock hanging in the shadows, sometimes so thick they obscure the light filtering down. Visibility varies wildly here, from a gloomy 5m to a brilliant 20m on a good day, but the wreck's sheer scale always impresses. Our pick for a top dive is definitely a slack tide around mid-morning. That’s when the light seems to penetrate the deepest, picking out the intricate deck railings and the ghostly outlines of the holds. Keep an eye out for elegant cuttlefish tucked into crevices and the occasional spotted ray gliding across the sandy seabed near the bow. It’s a serious dive, one for experienced wreck divers comfortable with depth and sometimes challenging conditions, but the reward is immense.
