St. Margaret, off Hook Head, offers a poignant dive into history. This steamship, sunk in 1919 with all hands lost, lies in just six meters of water, making it surprisingly accessible even for newer divers. The wreck itself is quite broken up, but you can still make out the hull plates and sections of machinery, now well-colonised by local marine life. Look closely among the wreckage for crab, lobster, and various wrasse species darting through the rusted metal. It’s a somber but intriguing site, a real piece of local maritime heritage.
